Just the other day, someone requested for Urology care in Nigeria.
A Urologist is a surgical specialist who takes care of the urinary system and prostate gland. So, I did a search and came up with this list that I’ve decided to share.
As men grow older, maintaining prostate health becomes increasingly important because the risk of conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer rises with age, potentially impacting urinary function and sexual health, overall well-being, and quality of life. Regular screenings and proactive lifestyle choices can help in early detection and effective management of these issues.
Men who are 45 to 69 years old should make individual decisions about being screened for prostate cancer with a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test.
Before deciding, men should talk to their doctor about the benefits and harms of screening for prostate cancer, including the benefits and harms of other tests and treatment.
Men who are 70 and older should not be screened for prostate cancer routinely, unless there are symptoms or complaints.
The goal of screening for prostate cancer is to find cancers that may be at high risk for spreading if not treated, and to find them early before they spread. However, most prostate cancers grow slowly or not at all.
Not all prostate complaints are caused by prostate cancer.
Prostate complaints can be caused by benign growth of the prostate, this condition can be treated with medication.
Some symptoms of prostate conditions could include :
Difficulty starting urination.
Weak or interrupted flow of urine.
Urinating often, especially at night.
Trouble emptying the bladder completely.
Pain or burning during urination.
Blood in the urine or semen.
Pain in the back, hips, or pelvis that doesn’t go away.
Painful ejaculation.
