Snake bite: What to do for this
September 19, 2021 was International snakebite awareness day.
Snakebites are mostly seen in agricultural areas in the tropics. A snakebite is a medical emergency.
People in communities at risk should understand the care available for them if a snakebite occurs.
Hospitals, health facilities and first aid responders should have an active protocol for managing snakebites.
A venomous bite is called an “envenomation.” Timely medical care and wound care are essential.
Antivenom injection may be used for severe symptoms.
